Since Margaret Leon was old enough to hold a camera, photography has been her passion. She began her working career as a teacher/counselor/school psychologist in the Boston area and then went on to develop her own successful financial planning service company, which she ran for over 25 years. Shortly after 9/11 , which redefined her values and life, Margaret spent a month in Umbria, fell in love with everything about Italy, and bought a home inside the walls of this medieval walled village. She moved to Italy in March 2002 from the “witch city” of Salem, Massachusetts - a small city north of Boston, USA. Previously she has spent six months living aboard her boat and sailing the East Coast of the US. She officially traded the boat for the "Boot" of Italy.
Already, after a short time in Italy, Margaret has won recognition in the Concorso Biennial di Fotografia, a photography contest held in Italy every 2 years. Her first entry in 2002 won Honorable Mention and her second entry in 2004 was awarded First Place in the digital category. In 2004, her photo won Honorable Mention in the USA-Photographer’s Forum/Canon Annual Photo Contest. She was chosen in the top 100 out of 19,000 entries and was published in the annual book “Best of Photography 2004” and again won equal recognition in “Best of Photography 2005, 2006 and 2007 ”. She has also done photos for many websites, journals, and more recently, became the onsite photographer for a major travel company in the US sponsoring tours in Italy.
